Gladys M. Klemp, 87, of Sumner, died Friday evening, May 16, 2014 at her home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. George Volkert officiating.
Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and after 9:30 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
Interment: Union Mound Cemetery, Sumner.
A Memorial Fund has been established in her name.
Gladys Marie Gruetzmacher was born August 27, 1926 at Westgate, Iowa the daughter of Herman F. and Emma (Frahm) Gruetzmacher. She was baptized on September 13, 1926 and confirmed on May 5, 1940 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate. On October 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edwin H. Klemp at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Gladys was employed at the Sumner Hospital. Gladys and Ed moved to Waterloo, where she was employed at Sears. They later moved back to Sumner in 1979. After the death of her father, Gladys cared for her mother in her home for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner. Gladys enjoyed going to auctions, collecting swans, beer steins and model horses and wagons. She also enjoyed a good game of rummikub every Tuesday night with her nieces, Velda and Diane. Every morning, Gladys started her day with daily devotions and reading her bible. Gladys will be remembered for being a very positive person and always looking on the bright side of things, therefore she had many friends.
Gladys is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 6, 2002; and a daughter at infancy; 2 brothers, Harold Gruetzmacher and Donnie Gruetzmacher.
